The character.
Name: Adelaide Illeah O'Mara Nickname(s): Adie, Fishie Age: Nineteen Mutations/Abilities: major: aquatic animal metamorphosis minor: underwater breathing Face Claim: I use myself as a character, if that's all right. Appearance: With long ringlets the color of a ripe apple, pale complexion sprinkled with freckles, and eyes of the lightest shade of blue, one might think Adelaide was a living doll. She's always looked weaker than most. Standing at only an inch above five feet, and weighing in at only eight-six pounds, the girl's barely a waif holding up against a breeze. Thank heavens she likes her donuts, otherwise there'd undoubtedly be nothing of her. She also has several birthmarks, most of them on her back and face. There's the shape of a small dragonfly, right on her left temple, extending over that same brow bone, the tail down by her cheek. Adelaide's usually not that self-concious about this one, the largest - she's always been proud of her defects, minus her 'illness'. For you see, Adelaide has aplastic anemia. What is aplastic anemia, you ask? Well, it's hell. She always feels sickly, and is usually seated for the greater part of every day. It's not unnatural to see her not playing around with other people, and is instead cooped up with her nose in a book, or playing the piano. If you'd stand behind her while she walked, you might notice a slight limp in her left leg. This has been there from birth, and is helped by her use of a cane. Which brings us to our next problem: Adelaide's blind in one eye and deaf in one ear. Both on her right side, she's learned to cope after that accident with gasoline and fire. Adelaide wears a patch over that eye, and hides the scars on her ear with her hair. Family: Father - Tomas James O'Mara - 52 - biophysicist Mother - Illeah Marie O'Mara - 46 - unemployed Brothers - Callagh Tomas O'Mara - 23 - Roan Imir O'Mara - 22 - Aidan Liam O'Mara - 19 - twin - Conor Bradan O'Mara - 19 - twin - Ian Murtagh O'Mara - 9 Personal History One upon a time you might've said that Adelaide had lived a happy life. Two loving parents, five brothers that adored and cared for her like a new puppy. She had been born and raised up on the rolling hills of Ireland, in a small town named Killarney, along with two hundred count of sheep and numerous other animals. Born on St. Patrick's Day as well, lucky her. Or perhaps unlucky. After all, she hadn't been the perfect girl her parents had wanted. Adelaide had been born sick. Doctors said she'd be alright, but she'd have to live a quieter life than most. No running or playing about. It was far too dangerous. What would happen if she injured herself? She might die, you know. People at her school positively tortured her, both mentally and physically. She was different, and they didn't like different. The 'cool' people only wanted the best ball players and the prettiest girls - Adelaide was neither of those, and too petrified to stand up for herself. They laughed and teased, poked and threw rocks until she broke down and cried and bled. The last straw was when they doused her with gasoline and lit her aflame. It was a 'practical joke' they said. A dare from one of the meanest boys in school - a boy three years ahead of her, who considered himself a daredevil, and who could do whatever he pleased. The terrible 'joke' caused her to lose her right eye, and go deaf in that same ear. However, she learned to deal, and continued on to discover her powers at the age of eleven. Apparently her great-grandfather on her father's side had been 'gifted', and the gene had skipped multiple generations. Her parents came to the decision to send her over to Blackbriar. It was the safest bet to keep her safe and happy. She could always come back to visit, but at that time, she needed to be around others like her. Where Adelaide would be accepted, and finally feel at home. Her first day at Blackbriar put her in shock. Nobody said a word to her. How could things possibly be different. She wrote to home, pleading to come back and wait a few more years, or at least to learn at home instead. Her parents refused, explaining that it was best for Adelaide to be with people like her. Mum and Dad couldn't take care of their baby girl forever, you know. It was just how things had to be. A few weeks passed by before she gained the respect of a few people - or perhaps just the curiosity - after she passed out in class and woke up later in the infirmary, only to return to class immediately against the nurse's wishes. Still, she's rarely allowed to do what she pleases. Adie's at times exempt from classes to have a lie-down or to eat something, but the teachers keep their eye on her far too much. She doesn't have enough freedom to explore like she'd like to, but at least there's people to talk to now. People she feels comfortable enough with to express herself however she'd like. It's almost better than home, in a way.
Personality: Adelaide's one of the shiest people you'll ever meet. Who could blame her, after what she's been through? However, there's a tough little soul under that frail shell. Adelaide's very protective of her family, and can get quite a temper if she's pestered too much. She also will not stand to be made fun of. That time was over and done, in her opinion, and to hell with it if people will laugh any more. And when Adelaide gets a temper, she gets a temper. Once a grudge, always a grudge, unless you pay her back in full. This little babyface is not one a force to be reckoned with. Regardless, she's very timid, and usually dislikes to try anything new. A bit of a fraidy-cat, Adelaide's more of a background person than anything. She gets herself into trouble when she picks fights. It's like a chihuahua going up against a pitt bull. Just something you don't do. Or want to see. Her temper can spark against the smallest thing. Something somebody said, but that she misinterpreted. Or just a simple tease, nothing to normally worry about. Adelaide's always been overly-cautious, something that just comes natural to her. Adie's also been more friendly around boys than girls as well. Being raised up along with five boys, she's used to rough-housing. Being 'ladylike' is not one of her talents, although she's usually modest. She won't belch in your face, after all. Girls tend to annoy her more often, and a few on occasion get angry that she's close friends with many boys. However, she's never fallen in love yet. There's been a few crushes here and there, but nothing major. It'll take a lot to win the heart of Adelaide. You'd have to break through the tough shell she's put up for a defense. Most guys give up after months of trying.
Fears: - death - darkness - grasshoppers - accidentally hurting someone Strengths/ Once you find yourself in a friendship with Adelaide, you've got yourself a friendship for life. She's one of the most loyal people, and will stick with someone through thick and thin. She's not afraid to put up her fists for a fight, either, although most of the time she loses on account of collapsing from exhaustion halfway through. You can't go wrong when it comes to getting something right when it comes to Adelaide, either. Quite smart - on account of her always studying and reading from lack of having anything else to do - she sometimes tutors people in her spare time. The girl's overall very kind, and tries her best to not offend anyone, although at times her tongue will slip and she'll beg and plead to be pardoned. Weaknesses: As described before, Adelaide's got more than the natural amount of physical weaknesses. She rarely lets it get her down, though. The major thing wrong with Adie is that she's got hardly any self-confidence. Sure, she knows that she's relatively pretty, but as for actually having the courage to go up and introduce herself to someone? Absolutely unthinkable. She also has a bad temper, is overly-protective of her friends and family. Adelaide can be the jealous type, usually thinking that someone's going to come and steal her friends away and leave her with nobody.
You.
Alias: Adelaide. Yes, same name as my character, I know. Experience: Since I was seven. That makes almost eleven years. How’d you hear about us? Neopets. Someone was advertising. Other: I am moving in just two weeks, but we'll have internet up there, so I'll be back online once I leave in about a day. Or so. I'll warn you before I leave. Role playing Sample She'd been living at the academy all her life, and still she never wished to leave. Well, in a way, she did. But that was only to explore the world outside of Archway Academy.
Even then, Adelaide had always been too terrified to do anything but stare.
Her father was a professor at the Academy, of Biological Science. Her mother was off somewhere traveling - possibly in the Indies for all the two knew. Adelaide L'aquere had been raised up in the academy under her father's guidance, learning to control her powers at an earlier age than most.
And now she was seventeen. Her birthday had passed only days before, and she didn't feel like she quite fit into her shoes yet.
Ah, but frankly, nothing was that different.
She still pulled those long vermilion ringlets to one side in a small, glittering clip, eyes of the lightest shade of blue crinkling up at the corners with a smile, flecks of grey and white catching the light. Pale complexion was still sprinkled with a fine layer of freckles - clearly Irish to the bone.
And her powers?
But of course, she'd inherited a mix from both parents.
Aquatic powers - she had the ability to breathe underwater for as long as she'd like. And also a curious ability as well. Creature-shifting, but only into forms of animals that lived and breathed underwater. No dolphins. No whales. Just fish and the like. As large or as small as she'd like as well - although Adelaide had always preferred the koi fish.
Much more elegant and easier to move around in.
She slunk from her room, soft steps making hardly any noise through the hallways, down the stairs, and outside, cracking her knuckles a few times long the way - a nasty habit, but so far unbreakable.
A bright, sunny day. She liked it best that way.

Ok, everything looks good - but I'm gonna need a little more before I can officially accept.
Lucky for you, you got the admin with high standards; lmao.
[history] - Spare a little more detail to make things more cohesive. Like the fire incident - it's a pretty huge deal in her life, right? What did she do that make the other kids not like her? What gave them the idea to do something so potentially homicidal as to light her on fire? Just more stuff like that to - explain things. You could also throw in what life was like at Blackbriar so far. Does she finally fit in? Has she made friends and discovered the potential of her powers? Stuff like that =D
[personality] - Three paragraphs is the minimum for this, I think. If you need a little help, try giving examples of what she does when she is shy. Does she clam up or does she run from the situation immediately? And then how does she gain the courage to stick up for her friends and family through her shyness? What does she do when she gets angry - does she pick fights or run away? What's her overall attitude like? Does she fall in love easily or hard? What kind of guys does she fall for? What kind of people does she immediately become friends with, and what kind of people does she cannot stand? Just a bit more in that area and you'll be good =D
Also, if you need any inspiration, you can check out my ap or any of the other accepted members here.
Thanks a bunch!!
